CREMATION IS NOT THAT BAD!

With the new law being passed by Governor Fashola to make cremation a legalized option of saying farewell to the departed, A lot of Nigerians (as per normal) are not to happy with the idea. I did some research to find out more about the act and to understand its benefits. So here goes....

Cremation simply put is the act of incinerating or burning a body (Human or animal) till it turns to ashes.

Benefits of Cremation
Cremation saves money. It could be a cheaper way out especially if direct cremation is done. If you are looking at the cost factor of burying with a coffin you might want to consider cremation because as soon as the legal documents are obtained, which is pretty easy all you have to do is to cremate and the remains are packaged for you in a plastic bag usually and given to the family to do what they wish with it.

Cremation requires using less land space if you want to bury the remains. This also saves money as buying a burial plot that would be enough to fit a coffin is a lot more expensive than a small space to just fit the ashes of the dead person.

There are so many beautiful things that could be done with the ashes of the cremated loved one. The ashes can be turned into a keepsake. e.g Jewelry, Diamonds. This one I actually like.

You can buy a beautiful vase known as an urn and put the ashes into it and then keep in an area of the house. I have also heard of cases where pets are cremated and turned into stuffed animals where they keep the pets' skin aside. clean and dry it and then take the remains of the pet, cremate it and make a stuffed replica of the dead pet with the dried skin, cremated ashes and other materials.

Although it is a bit creepy thinking about the possibility of having stepped on a dead persons ashes in my lifetime, you can spread/scatter the ashes of the loved one at a place you know they loved so much while alive or follow their last request to do this. For example U.S navy sailors sometimes cremate their colleagues and scatter their remains at sea which makes sense because the person was a seaman at heart while alive. Other places include parks, beaches, countries (Not sure how legal it is to travel to another country with a dead persons ashes though. Please find out before you do it)

Anyway these are some of the benefits, but as for me Cremation is a no no. I like the good old traditional burial. I cant imagine somebody burning my body while I am dead. Lol. Mbano.

Mwah. X
